Here is a video produced by my buddy Grant Malone.
Grant is a DJ at 90.5 Pirate Radio at Park University with me and he asked me to help him with a video.
I may not have the prettiest mug in the world, but I applaud Grant on doing his best with my shiny bald head.
Enjoy the video.

5 Best Tips/Links for Journalist in this growing Multimedia world

1. Youtube
Youtube

Youtube allows anyone that has access to a camera or video camera the ability to join the journalistic media world. With the ability to put video up of major events or make a presentation like a narrated slideshow, anyone is able to publicize themselves. Youtube is just a faster and rapidly growing television news station with less in depth stories.

2. Blogging
Blogging

Blogging allows anyone to update whomever is viewing on stories that happen to them or in a professional sense, they can put their amateur or professional stories on a blog and have unlimited amounts of followers. This is a free media where anyone can put their creative stories online where nearly everyone in the world has access to them and can become famous just from writing short segments of big or little news. This article talks about blogging being a goldmine for journalist with unlimited resources.

3. Twitter
Twitter

This short article talks about twitter being what I call a "gateway," it allows anyone to post something with a quick link to something else online. These 140 character messages can link you to official web pages with pictures and stories, they can be linked to blogs and youtube videos all over the web. It is a quick way to put something out there for everyone to see so that if it is interesting enough they can follow up on the story through those links.

4.Facebook
Facebook

Facebook is a great journalism resource because it is something that millions upon millions of people are already using and one quick tag in a post can link to millions of people and that link can send you to any page on the web. If a journalist has their own journalism page they can put up pictures and stories of recent events or things they have covered.

5. Podcast
Podcast Chart

Podcast's  are a fantastic new resource to the journalism world. Someone can search through any amount of podcasts or podcast stations to follow and from anywhere in the world they can listen on their ipods or smart phones, this allows journalist to publish a story and put it up as a podcast so that someone can click it and decide to listen whenever they have free time. This is great as opposed to regular radio where if you miss the story you will have to wait till the next time it is brought up.

Premiere Pro Advanced

Premiere Pro Assistance

I completed my first out of class movie just a week ago and after going through many many struggles of producing and editing my first video I felt that I could have used some major help. Although I had had some practice before hand on premiere pro, I was not ready for a 35 minute production in the end. I had some help from my professor, but if you are working on a movie alone and you have access to premiere pro and are not ready for what I was not completely ready for, then the link above (Premiere Pro Assistance) should give you all the help that you could possibly need. And if you have not done a slide show on premiere pro either, this tips could benefit you in this area as well ;-).

Photo Illustrations Inspiration!

http://www.web3mantra.com/2011/04/16/25-best-photo-illustrations-examples/

This is a site showing some of the best photo illustrations. This week our project for our Digital Media Skills class is to create our own photo illustrations and tag in a story to it. Well my inspiration is all sports for the most part, but looking at these great photo illustrations has given me more ideas that I could imagine for how to create mine. I hope they inspire my followers to create your very own photo illustrations whether its for a class or you just enjoy creating amazing works of art. There are plenty of examples of good photo illustrations around on the web and some even better than this, so I encourage everyone to use this among others to drive yourself to do your best possible work so that you can become your own form of an artist.

Newspaper? InDesing? ARGGGGGHHH

So an assignment we had to do for our Digital Media Skills class was to make our very own 2 pages for a newspaper we have invented. My only complaint was to myself because I forgot a lot of information about how to change things on the page. After some very well needed help from classmates I accomplished my goal and completed the assignment. I ran into serious issues with time, I continued to try and do this assignment between classes and eating and work/radio shows. But in the end i completed it and I am proud. If you want, you can comment on how you think my newspaper pages are, I would appreciate it. Let me know if I could do more to improve these pages and I will try to do better the next time. My only advice to future InDesign users is, learn your shortcuts and give yourself time to get everything just as you want it.

Twitter @JonLaHue #AWESOME

I am a new member of twitter and found these few steps to be very useful. I knew about twitter before I joined it based on the programming I tune into such as ESPN or my favorite news channels, but being new at something this massive can be unnerving. If you follow these steps you can become the twitter master. Also you will become more familiar with how to become famous amongst your friends and more in twitter. The other best part about twitter would be that, it allows you to connect yourself through your other links such as a blog like this one or your Facebook account and even your cell phone where you can txt a tweet. I hope you all find these tips useful as I did.

How to Start Using Twitter:

If you remember one thing after perusing this page, it should be this: reading Tweets and discovering new information whenever you check in on your Twitter timeline is where you’ll find the most value on Twitter. Some people find it useful to contribute their own Tweets, but the real magic of Twitter lies in absorbing real-time information that matters to you.

1. DISCOVER SOURCES: find and follow others

It’s best to begin your journey by finding and following other interesting Twitter accounts. Look for businesses you love, public service accounts, people you know, celebrities, or news sources you read. (Click here for help finding interesting accounts.) Tip: One great way to find more interesting accounts is see who those you know or admire are following.

2. CHECK IT OFTEN: pay attention to what’s happening

Messages from others you follow will show up in a readable stream on your homepage timeline. Once you've followed a few people, you'll have a new page of information to read each time you log in. Click links in others' Tweets to view: images and videos they have posted, the profiles of users mentioned in their message, or Tweets related to a hashtag (#) keyword they used.

3. TAKE IT WITH YOU: connect your mobile

One of the best things about Twitter is that it’s portable. Connect your account to your mobile phone(see below for instructions) or download a Twitter application to begin reading Tweets on the go. Now you can get updates about traffic problems in the middle of your commute, find out what the players are saying while you’re at the game, or catch up on the buzz about an event you’re about to attend. The possibilities are endless! Tip: Using Twitter via SMS allows you to pick and choose which updates you want from those you follow, so you can get mobile updates from the accounts that matter most to your life on-the-go.

How to Start Tweeting:

Many users find it fun or exciting to contribute their own content to Twitter (we call this “tweeting”). If you’re one of them, here are some good ways to get started posting your own Tweets. People you know and people you are interested in what you have to say may follow you and they’ll see all the Tweets you share with them.

1. BUILD A VOICE: retweet, reply, react

Use existing information (other people's Tweets) on Twitter to find your own voice and show others what you care about. Retweet messages you've found and love, or reply with your reaction to a Tweet you find interesting. Tip: If you're a new user, others are more likely to find your messages if they are retweets or replies.

2. MENTION: include others in your content

Once you're ready to begin authoring your own messages, consider mentioning other users by their Twitter username (preceded by the @ sign) in your Tweets. This can help you think of what to write, will draw more eyes to your message, and can even start a new conversation. Try posting a message mentioning a celebrity or person you admire – they often respond to fans. You’ll see their response on your Mentions tab. Tip: Can’t think of anything to write? Don’t worry! Like I said, the real magic lies in locating and reading content on Twitter.

3. GET FANCY: explore advanced features

As you become more engaged on Twitter, others will begin to find and follow you. Once you're familiar with Twitter basics, consider exploring the site’s more advanced features: listsdirect messages, andfavorites. Learn how to include images or videos in your Tweets, or consider connecting your Twitter account to your your blogFacebook, or website to show off your updates across the web. Tip: The best way to gain followers on Twitter is to regularly engage and contribute in a meaningful way.

Episode 1

Episode 1

Audio Frustration

So this week, our class was asked to an audio project, which I thought was going to be an easy task. I have done a small project or two for other classes and thought that this would be the same type of project....

I learned real fast that I was in for a rude awakening, even up until the last minute. We used digital recorders to take sound bytes from friends or whomever and I did that very quickly. Then we were supposed to edit all the clips and slap some music down in the background and that was pretty easy too, minus the fact that I had a brain fart and could not remember exactly how to convert files from "wma" to "mp3." Once I completed that, the editing portion of the project was the easy portion I remember from my other projects. Editing video and especially audio has become one of my new favorite things to do and may soon become my new hobby. My biggest downfall came upon the final step...UPLOAD AS A PODCAST. I have tried two websites that allow free upload of podcasts. The first site let me do everything up until the actual upload and then it froze...four times. Not fun. the second website was similar but it was very complicated to navigate around and  figure out where my files had gone and I kept running to the same areas of my account and was getting very confused. Finally thought it happened, the moment I had been waiting for. The upload of my first ever podcast. I have a link below to download the podcast, unfortunatly I can not figure out how to find it on itunes podcast. I hope to later post an actual podcast on my site directly connected to my podcast and my episodes which I may do more and more of seeing as it will involve some more editing skills.

Audio Post

So, for our new project in our Digital Media Skills class, we are supposed to do some audio recording of ourselves and a friend and then some music. I am linking a sound byte below and although I know it will not be used in my project, I found it humorous and thought my followers would too. I found a website that has thousands of sound bytes that are available to link to other pages or just listen to. I love when I can just here a short clip of a famous persons voice or maybe a cartoon you grew up watching. Audio links and the abilities we have to create audio clips and sound bytes of our own is amazing and the devices we can use to make those clips are awesome as well. The idea that the recording devices we have now are as small as a lighter is amazing, I remember when there would be a record button on a boombox or maybe a walkman, but not everyone had those. Now the devices are so small and affordable, everyone that wants one can afford to have their own and start clogging the airways with there thoughts and sayings. I hope you all enjoy the clip as I did. Enjoy.

Video Post

For my first post, although late, I have posted my video below. This video is my first assignment as well as first video ever shot to put on the internet. I enjoyed this project for multiple reasons. Firstly it allowed me to use and figure out how to function a digital camera. I have owned a video camera for years, but it was the old fashioned type that still used tape and I was never able to put any of that video onto the web because of the cords and capabilities that limited it. It was also extremely fun for me to put this video on the computer purely because it gave me the ability to edit my video and make it the way I wanted to instead of just cramming lots of random video segments together which is all I have been able to do previously. I hope you all enjoy the video and appreciate for the work that was put into it, seeing that its my first video I made it with the intentions of video that ran together smoothly so there is no clear sounds that make it a movie, but it is interesting to me. Enjoy
